Paring, coring, and slicing the apples...

 We blended the applesauce until it was smooth

and...

 enjoyed!

The kids found a way to move the heavy bag of mortar mix...

Someone caught a ride...

Everyone had a turn using the cement mixer...

We then poured it into molds to make stepping stones.  Next week, we'll do mosaic designs on them.

Skill Share: Embroidery!

We all love to share what we love and what we know best (or do we?).  Organizing a skillshare gives each person the space to be in the spotlight and share a skill, teach a lesson, or show a trick.  It emphasizes the idea that we can all learn from each other.  And the sky's the limit!

This child started an embroidery lesson by demonstrating how to make a simple stitch...

She worked one-on-one when others needed assistance with tying off ends, etc...

She shared an ample amount of encouragement...

 And the conversation flowed- just like a regular ol' stitch n' bitch...

Visit with an Eastern Screech Owl & Wildlife Rehabilitator

Today, Stephanie Boyd, wildlife rehabilitator and volunteer at the Wildlife Rescue Center, visited us with her friend, Katari, who is an Eastern Screech Owl.  Wildlife rehabilitators take care of injured animals, and in most cases, help them return to the wild.

 Katari was hit by a car and has very little vision.  He would be unable to survive in the wild and so he is an education animal.

This Eastern Screech owl is suited to live in oak trees; its feathers blend right in with the bark of an oak tree.  We also learned that owls have soft feathers so that they can fly silently at night while they are hunting.

Day after Halloween

I didn't snap one photo of our Halloween celebration.  Sign of a fun time, huh?  But traces of Halloween accompanied the kids to playschool the next day, though:
